Model United Nation:
Friday, November 18th - Sunday, November 20th
*students leave at 6AM on Friday and miss a day of school, excused*
This conference is designed based on the actual United Nations. Students team up in groups of 3-4 and are given a country to represent. Prior to the conference, they research the country, write 4 position papers, and craft a Resolution. They are trained how to do this at the mandatory training meetings at Memphis University School with the YMCA, who hosts the conference. At the conference, students present their Resolution in committee, where it is debated and ranked. The top Resolutions are then brought to the General Assembly, where students debate the Resolutions in character of their country.
The conference is held at the Embassy Suites in Murfreesboro, TN. There is an outdoor mall adjacent to the hotel, where students eat lunch and dinner (breakfast is provided). Students attend a dance on the Saturday night of the conference. There are YMCA staff, teachers from schools across Tennessee, and college-aged students chaperoning the conference. Students sign a code of conduct for behavior as well.
